1-2 punch

Today, Olivia and I ventured over to Allston to check out The Ring Boxing Club. Lucky for me, I stumbled upon a Buy With Me special, where I could get a month membership for 19.99. Get out of here! Although I was a little off on how much of a discount that was, it was still a super score. Normal membership is staggered from 99.00 (weekends only) to 139.00/month for unlimited access to the gym.

What’s kind of sweet is that you can check it out by trying out a Free Trial lesson that gives you a free week of membership.

I decided to begin this journey by asking Beane-o if she would accompany me to my first lesson, because although I’m pretty independent, I for some reason have a hard time checking out new workout venues on my own. Olivia obviously obliged and we set out for our 1:00 training time. At first, we weren’t sure what to expect because you had to learn the 5 different punches. It was a little slow going in the beginning. Silly me, because once we moved to the bags, we quickly learned that we were going to get our butts kicked. We, for sure, did. Its quite a workout to keep up with different combinations of punches. Our trainer then had us work on crunches, push-ups, planks, jumping jacks, and plank/push-up combo jobs. PHEW.

A typical class burns 900 calories. Call me a believer, because you’ll see me there frequently during my month-long membership. Our trial class wasn’t even half of what is expected in the regular classes (unlimited choice of classes with the membership, up to 50 a week). I am very excited to re-kick start my strength training routine. A strong core (stomach and back muscles) is essential for keeping up with my runs, especially when I start the real marathon training in the beginning of February. Hopefully, if I can keep myself motivated, I’ll start to develop muscles I didn’t even know I had. Fingers crossed! (FYI, the pictures couldn’t be more awkward. hahaha)
